Laws are changing just about everywhere you turn when it comes to vaping and the sale of e-liquids. Things are no different in New Jersey. They are set to ban the delectable flavored vaping fluid that many have come to know and love. Their goal behind this new ban is to help prevent children from taking an interested in products that they aren’t old enough to purchase anyway. When you think about it, the whole thing doesn’t really make sense. Who is it that they are punishing? It isn’t the children, it is the adults who are old enough to purchase the products and truly enjoy the taste of a flavored liquid.
New Jersey already has a ban in place on the sale of flavored tobacco products. The only flavored items that are allowed to be sold in the state are tobacco, menthol and clove flavors. That takes quite a few options off the table when all is said and done. This new bill that is advancing through the State legislature is looking to extend their current ban to that of the electronic cigarette. The bill has already made it through their health committee, so it is just a matter of time to see how far this thing is going to go.
According to state representatives, the bill is intended to protect the children, but it isn’t just affecting them. It affects everyone who is interested in purchasing these products. They claim that electronic cigarettes are more appealing than the traditional cigarettes on the market today. Their reasoning stems from the candy-like flavored liquids that are out there available for purchase. While these flavors are sensational and do leave you wanting more, that doesn’t mean that they are the only reason why teens are consuming them. The state feels that they are going to be doing everyone a favor by extending their current ban on flavors to that of the e-liquids.
However, they aren’t really putting things into perspective when you stop and think about it. Anyone under 19 isn’t allowed to purchase these products anyway, without it being illegal of course. It would have been 21 had it not been vetoed when put up to a vote. It isn’t the kids who are out there purchasing these flavored liquids for their vaping devices, at least not in the state of New Jersey anyway. It is the adults who are looking for something that doesn’t taste absolutely horrendous.
Many adults just want something that tastes sweet without having to go out and consume a bunch of candy and empty calories to satisfy their sweet tooth. Yet, all of that could be coming to a halt if the state gets their way. This could affect far more than just the teens in the area who shouldn’t be purchasing these items in the first place because they aren’t old enough to do so. Who knows if this will get passed through the state, but it is definitely something that the lawmakers are aiming for.
